When I get emails from readers that say “I feel so unorganized and don’t know where to start!”Home Organization I tell them to pick one space in their home and use the following steps to declutter and organize it. (It doesn’t have to be a whole room. It can be something as small as one drawer!)
Then they can move on to the next area and the next. It won’t happen overnight. But if we chip away at the clutter little by little, before we know it we’ll start feeling organized!
I love having an organized home because when my home is full of clutter, I feel like my brain is too. My home is by no means perfectly organized – it will always be a work in progress. But I wanted to share some of the home organization ideas that have had the most impact in our past and current homes.
They range from super quick 5 minute fixes to more involved “rainy day” projects. I’ve divided them up by room as a way to organize my organizing ideas – ha! Let’s start with the kitchen… (post includes affiliate links; full disclosure statement available
Take Advantage of the Space on Upper Shelves

Do you have a pantry like mine where there’s a lot of wasted space above the top shelf (but you can’t add another shelf because it would be inaccessible)? To take advantage of that extra space, create vertical storage. For example, by adding, I was able to stack my paper towel rolls vertically, freeing up a ton of additional storage space on our top shelf:
When I need a new roll of paper towels, I can simply pull out the roll on the bottom that’s easily reachable.
Multipurpose cutlery organizers
Keep that messy cutlery drawer organized, for when a craving strikes, the correct spoon shall always be within your reach. The cutlery organizer is a smart and pragmatic solution to keeping silverware in order of size or type, be it spoons, forks, knives, or chopsticks.
The organisers ensure that you’ve got the right cutlery at the right time for the right dish. The tumblers with drainage holes are perfect for placing cutleries after washing and can also be placed in the bathroom as a
Reduce Countertop Clutter By Hanging Your Most-Used Spray Bottles

I hate countertop clutter, but in a busy house with kids, some clutter is inevitable. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to fight the good fight to keep as much crap as I can off of the counter though!
One of my favorite solutions is attaching to the back of a kitchen cabinet door. I hooked my three most-used spray bottles on the back of one of my under-sink cabinet doors and love that instead of littering my countertops, they’re hidden away:
Divide & Conquer Your Drawers

One of my go-to strategies for organizing our kitchen drawers is to use drawer dividers that keep everything organized and in place. For our deeper kitchen island drawers, I love 4″ tall adjustable dividers such as that I’ve used to organize pots and pans, serving pieces, and
For more shallow drawers, I love I hang the spring-loaded end at the back of the drawer, making it appear as if you have custom dividers:
Make It Accessible With Rolling Organizers
There’s typically a lot of storage space in the cabinet under your kitchen sink but the area in the back can be a bit of a black hole since it’s hard to access (especially if you have a corner sink like me!). Getting rolling organizers can make a huge difference in not only keeping things organized but also making them easy to access!
I specifically love because it has adjustable dividers, holds a ton, and rolls in and out with ease:
Consider the room

The solutions that work for your bedroom might not work in every room of your house. In the bedroom, Richards recommends a storage bed “to provide a huge amount of hidden storage”.
Hydraulic-lift beds have storage beneath the mattress, but they do require a bit of elbow grease to lift, so they’re best for things such as backup bedding or seasonal clothing. If you need more regular access, a bed with built-in side or front drawers can work nicely. Instead of a traditional bedside table, Richards said: “Wide nightstands with drawers or low dressers can give you much more functionality.”
When I was bed shopping last year, this bed was one of the top contenders, in part because of how well the front drawer integrates into the design.
